Count them! 5 ports!

I usually don't bother writing reviews but the previous review that rated this switch 2 out of 5 was so bad I feel I should set the record straight. It's 5-port. The 5 ports are there regardless whether one is used for uplink or not. I have yet to see any network switch (5, 8, 16, or 24 ports) by any manufacturer advertise otherwise. For someone to slam a product for true advertisement is frankly wrong and at best ignorant or at worse malicious. My business uses several of these and it work...

Does exactly what I needed and works great.

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) I needed a switch to extend my network into another room in the house so I could connect another computer, a Blu-ray player, and a network attached storage hard drive to the existing network. I chose this switch because of the price, the Gigabit ethernet ports, and because I've had good experiences with D-Link hardware before. This switch does exactly what I need, does it well, a...

Lasted 3 months

Dead after 3 months. Tried to contact D-link, but no response to emails. I guess D-link is not what it used to be.Update: Finally got up with D-link, and got an RMA number. The instructions are for me to send the switch, AC adapter, CD-ROM, bracket, and proof of purchase back to them. I no longer have the bracket or CD-ROM, so they want to charge my credit card a $32 fee for not including these, plus I have to pay the shipping. LOL, forget it D-link! I am taking my business els...

Great switch for the price

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) All of the wireless devices on my home network were killing overall performance as I had simply outgrown the 5 port 10/100 switch integrated into my wireless G router. I tried a few N and dual-band routers that had integrated GigE switches hoping this would address my performance issue, but none of these had acceptable range and would consistently drop the signal beyond 40 feet.R...

Great little switch - elegant packet switching

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) I was looking for a small, low-power, reliable little 8-port gigabit enabled switch with auto mdi/mdix.. and I found it. The unit runs very cool, is completely silent, and sits eloquently in the background. Before I purchased this, I reviewed Linksys (aka Cisco), Trendnet, HP, and a few others options for aggregate throughput, buffer RAM, power usage, etc.The Dlink DGS-1008G is...

Best switch for the money

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) This is a fantastic product. It's hard for some reason to find a good Gigabit Switch. Most consumer switches are 10/100, not 10/100/1000, and they sell for the same price or more than the D-Link. Prior to this, I was using several Dell 2708 switches. They ran flawlessly but are large and heavy (and made of metal). This product is tiny, mostly plastic, light, and runs cool. I also like th...

Works Great, look for the new 5V version

This review is from: D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) Works Great, Clear light indicators, good product. There are 2 versions of this on the market. There is a early version of 7V DC and the new rev 5V DC. I would take the 5V units only.

easy -- just connect it, that's all

This review is from: D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) A good switch should require no real thought to install. You plug in, connect cat5e cables, and you're done. After that, it should work invisibly, giving you good throughput and no concerns whatsoever. This one does that. If you need a modest-cost 5-port gigabit switch, I can recommend this one without reservation.Notes: (1) If you don't need gigabit, you can get...

Very good throughput for a small footprint

This review is from: D-Link DGS-2205 5-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) My model is the DGS-2205 with the 5V power adapter. Like a previous reviewer, I noticed that I wasn't getting anywhere near gigabit speeds to my LaCie Ethernet Raid device. Well, that's because the LaCie Ethernet Raid Device is a slow pig. After connecting my Mac Book Pro and my Mac Pro to the switch, I started offloading data to the Mac Pro.Sustained throughput was...

Solid Switch.

This review is from: D-Link DGS-1005G 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch (Personal Computers) Going from a NetGear to this was like moving from Detroit to the Swiss Alps. Nice and small, yet great build quality. Internet performance is more solid than with other switches I've tried over the years. One huge plus is, it doesn't get hot like the others. Good job D-Link another top-notch product.
