How good is output quality? You decide.

This review is to provide an example of the quality of output. I have read the technical evaluations written by others, and they are good, so I will not amplify except to say that I did have to purchase a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter in order to plug the supplied cable into my MacBook Pro. I paid $ at a local store for it. No need for the optional power supply.I wanted to know how good is the quality of the captured video compared with the DVR I have. I was not pleased with the DVR output of a we...

It works extremely well

Been wanting to move my library of VHS tapes over to DVD for a long time. The problem was, I couldn't find the proper means of doing the task. I read many reviews for software products as well as hardware gadgets from the likes of Pinnacle and Elgato but none of these were rated well for being able to preserve the original quality of the VHS when transferring to media meant to be shown on a large screen TV.It was by accident that I came across a recommendation for the ADVC-110. Though it was a...

Not Supported on Mac OS 10.8 and up

Some of the features work, but not as described. Unless you are using an old Mac OSGrass Valley website says they have stopped supporting this product as of 2016 so don't hope for any updates

So Glad I Bought The Canopus ADVC110

I was looking for a device that would help me transfer my old VHS tapes to DVD. Based on the great reviews I read, I bought the Canopus ADVC110.I have a new iMac and was happy to see the Canopus would work with my iMac and iMovie. I knew ahead of time that the Firewire cable included with the Canopus would not work with my iMac's Firewire 800 port, so I did have to buy a 6 pin male to 9 pin male bilingual cable.I didn't have to read the manual to get up and running. I plugged an RCA cable (red, ...

Be advised on the firewire cable

If a 4-wire firewire cable is used then you will have to buy a separate power supply PSUV5 Power Supply - for ADVC-55 and ADVC-110 .If a 6-wire firewire cable is used then no power supply is needed....Ajay

This thing save my bacon!

I have thousands of hours of quality footage ranging from VHS, DVCPRO, mini-DV, 3/4", BetaSP, and DVCAM. My AG-DV2500 deck took a dive and was going to cost hundreds of bucks to repair, with no guarantees that it would die again. This Converter effortlessly save my bacon and I'm am importing the heck out of all my stock into FCPX. The video, even VHS looks fantastic. Easy to use, compatible with everything, and I have not found anything to complain about this product. Everybody should buy one to...

Not compatible with PC

I bought this product because the manual says it doesn't need AC power when connected through firewire 600. It is true on my macbook pro, but this feature doesn't work when connected to a PC. I use a PC for live video streaming in the field.

works fantastic right out of the box

Over the years, I have tried to turn 10+ years of Hi-8 tapes recorded with a higher-end Canon camcorder into stories about family and travel. Every product I tried did some things well, but the biggest problems were audio-video out-of-sync in longer clips and glitches. I have had my eyes on this product when it was Canopus, but the price was a bit too steep. The ADVC-110 has the right price and delivers rock-steady digital catpture without the out-of-sync problems. I am finally editing, rather t...

Easy to Use & Exceptional Performance

I've been using the ADVC-110 to convert old Hi8 tapes to digital format on my Mac. This product, unlike others on the market, coverts the raw footage of the tape rather than compresses it during the process. Yes, it is a little bit more expensive, but, to me, it is well worth the extra money. It is so exceptionally easy to use and a must-have for anyone looking to convert old tapes to digital format. Do not hesitate to buy this product.
