Solid and built like a tank

This is a conventional "sled" amp in a 1U package. I use it for bass guitar. Couldn't ask for a better sound. It goes very deep, but still sounds tight -- the hallmark of a well-designed Class AB amp with a traditional (non-switching) power supply. There are no turn-on or turn-off thumps; mechanical relays prevent that from happening. If you don't mind the weight, put this on your short list. Don't let the 1U size fool you; this amp is no slouch within its power limits. Two minor nits: The speake...

Very quiet, great sounding, rugged

ART, (designed and sold through the venerable Yorkville company) makes this amp. That's what helped me decide to try one. I'm glad i did. It is superbly quiet, suitable for studio monitoring. If you want a compact amp for powering a small PA or instrument system, it is certainly a good choice. I also like the fact that the fan doesn't come one unless it has to, in which case you don't notice the fan noise. (except maybe the "fans" in your audience)For ten bucks more, you can get the QSC GX3, whi...

solid and powerful in only 1 rack space

It's only been a few weeks, but this amp is the perfect power amp for my 4RU bass rig. Paired with the BBE compressor, the sound is powerful and transparent. I was looking for something like my Gallien Kreuger RB800 only in stereo (with twice the power) to power a 2x10" and a 1x15" cabinet, with stability down to 2 Ohms and ability to run continuously into 4 ohms on both (something that the GK couldn't do well). The construction of the SLA-2 is very solid and should hold up to road use well. The...

If it wasn't for the transformer hum...

Great little amp. It powers 4 Ohm speakers effortlessly. Unfortunately, since I was using this nearfield, I could readily hear significant transformer hum during quiet passages or no music output. So, the black background isn't as black even as some midfi stuff. I'm not sure what competition they really have at this price point though. Pretty good otherwise. Bass was authoritative and tight, treble wasn't etched, mids were clear.

Better Than I Expected

I use the SLA-2 with a BBE bass pre-amp to run two Eminence CB15 15" bass guitar speakers. This amp has more power than I will ever need.George "Red" Taylor

Sadly dissapointed

I'm not sure if I have a bad unit, but I'm returning it. It does sound good but doesn't deliver the power at all. And the protection circuitry of one channel kicks in way before the other channel. I have other amps rated for much less power that do a better job. I knew I should have bought the QSC.

Great amp at a good price

The SLA 2 is very powerful and bullet proof for its size. I use them in professional installations for courtrooms and conference rooms.

excellent amp for home theatre

this amp is small, high power, and less then $300. perfect for large home and studio speakers, or mid-sized pro speakers. does get a little warm (as expected for compact size), and i find the gain controls a little loose. also i'm either blind or there is no ground lift button. great amp, huge power, sounds amazing.

Nice amp

Compact quality amplifier, great for smaller installation. The ability to lock out the gain controls with the included blanking panel is a nice feature as well.
