Finally, an HD based Linux Acer Aspire One

Well, what can I write that hasn't been written before. Well, first off $50 cheaper than the identical XP version is a good start. I have had mine for about a week and it is a notebook replacement. Now, you do have to be able type on it and have pretty good eyesight, but before you let the industry tell you these are "smartphone" wannabe's, you should try it. The Linpus linux version is great for advanced users who just want it to work and beyond easy for people with no computer skills. OK,...

Acer Aspire One with Linux Fits the Bill

I wanted a Linux-based netbook with a properly positioned right shift key, so I decided to try an Acer Aspire One. So far I'm please with the quality of the machine, and the keyboard is very user-friendly. Linpus Lite is a reasonably good Linux distribution. In general I've been able to make the software modifications I wanted, but this has required a lot of time on forums and enthusiast Web sites. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

DO NOT BUY FROM ANTOnline!!!!!

I love this little computer. It is a perfect 2nd laptop to take onto campus and take notes with, surf the internet, what ever you want. The only problem I had was who I bought the computer from. ANTOnline was selling them through Amazon, so I thought they would be legit. Not only did they send me a computer with a 4-cell battery rather than a 6-cell (about a $50 difference) but they refused to refund me the money. The only thing they offered was for me to pay to ship it back and eat that cos...

Great Introduction to Linux

The Linux version boots quickly and it is a nice lightweight machine for travel, email, web, and general office tasks. The learning curve was a bit steep since I've have never used Linux before. However, it was easy to find blogs and discussion groups online with clear instructions on installing Skype, updating software, and tweaking the computer to suit one's needs.

Can't go wrong with this little guy!

What a bargain this is! I bought mine back in January at 1am on a tuesday morning with free shipping that was offered then, and recieved it wednesday afternoon! I have Vista Home installed on mine, because I needed a more familiar OS that I can easily customize to my needs (college/ work), and not that I didn't quite care for that particular version of linux - the version of linux supplied is quite adequate and amazing for even a basic/general user! Great reliable product! Small keyboard, but go...

Amazingly Powerful Netbook!

Unlike the other reviewer, I actually have the unit listed here (AOA150-1382) and have been VERY impressed with this netbook (after some software modifications, including wiping Linux and installing Windows). I'm running Windows 7 beta with the stock config (1.6G Atom, 1GB RAM, 160GB HD) and it runs great! I don't play games, so I wasn't worried about the integrated graphics. However, I do watch videos and movies and this laptop is perfect for that purpose. You'll only need to get them in a &qu...

Very nice, delicate, extremely hard to upgrade

I have the 512-megabyte version. This meant immediate upgrade to 1-gigabyte. Unfortunately it's extremely difficult to upgrade the memory on this netbook, so by all means get this version which already has 1 gigabyte on it. These netbooks cannot go higher than 1.5 gigabytes. The really nice version of Linux on this model runs really well in 1 gigabyte, and at this price you can save the money and effort you would have spent upgrading the memory on the 512 MB model. The shell of the notebook...

Nice netbook

I have the 1 gig version of this netbook, as pictured. I'm a big linux fan and have been running linux since 2000 on various desktops. Since this netbook is really for my daughter I changed the OS to XP. It hurt the speed a little but is now more user friendly for her. You really need to see how small these things are before you buy one. For me, the screen is just to little for everyday use but my daughter loves it. Changing the OS wasn't easy but you can find step by step instruction on the n...

Great sub-notebook for your bucks!

I got the 160Gb HDD version with Linux version installed. I easily changed the OS to Windows XP and then to Windows 7.0 Beta to test this OS. There is a nice forum of users (search Acer Aspire One Users) where you can get instructions on how to install any OS on it. I do not have any plans for upgrade anything on it since it will be outdated in 1.5 year. It's a good toy to take with you on vacation to check e-mails and read news. Pros: brilliant screen, large HDD, lots of USB ports, output to TV...
